The Custom Jigs & Spins Story

Coralville, IA (11/30/14) - From humble basement beginnings nearly 40 years ago, Custom Jigs & Spins has stayed true to one goal - handcrafting high-quality jigs that catch fish.

"In 1988, my dad Poppee and I heard a guy in Pekin, Illinois, had an ice tackle business for sale. Since we were both engineers and fishermen, we thought we'd take a look," says former owner and current Custom Jigs & Spins lure designer Walt Matan.

Dave Chong Lands 8.02 Pound Smallmouth Bass

On Friday Oct. 24, 2014 Dave Chong of Aurora Ontario went fishing with good friend, Steve Neveu of Cobourg. Just as they were about to take off, Dave realized he forgot his net in the back of the truck. Steve offered to grab it and quickly ran back. "There are two nets - the smaller one should be fine," Dave yelled out.  Once there Steve saw a rather big EGO net and another that was even larger.  Steve brought back the “Really Big" EGO net so Dave looked at him with a grin and asked if he thought one of them might be catching a "Really Big" fish and without hesitating, his response was "Absolutely!"

Olive the Lake ... A Fishing Vacation To Remember!

Pssssss! We could hear the loud hissing noise just as we were about to pull off the highway and onto the roadway leading to the fishing resort. Our ominous arrival at Olive the Lake Resort may have begun with a blown tire but there’s no doubt it let folks at the resort know that the Wegman brothers have made arrived! Knowing time was of the essence, I scurried over to the resort's boat launch and parked my truck and Nitro bass boat ready to launch just as the tire went completely flat. Right away, Bruce MacDonald ... the owner and resort guests Scot Primo and his wife Cindy came out to welcome us and ...even better- help to change the flat. It was a strangely memorable and wonderful start to an even more wonderful fishing vacation at the end of September with my brother Marcel (aka Red).
