Bancroft - Lake Weslemkoon
Most of the ice on Lake Weslemkoon in the shallower areas is 9 inches at this time, however in areas where the water is deeper, you will find 5-6 inches. A large portion of this lake has very deep water, and there are areas on this lake that you have to know to avoid. Because this lake level is maintained by a dam in certain areas there is strong current where there is little or no ice. The ice surface is completely snow free, glare ice. Last night alone we picked up an inch of ice thickness. Our lake Weslemkoon is in Zone 18. We are adjacent to zone 15 by 10 mins to lakes like Mayo Lake, Wannamaker Lake. These two lakes have good perch, lake trout, and splake. We are a 20 min trail ride to another small lake which has speckles and good perch. It is called Sleeper Lake (locals call it Green), accessible by snowmobile or ATV. There is another lake in zone 15 called Fraser Lake which also has 9 inches of ice. This lake has pickerel, pike and perch. This is an easy 25 minute drive from our cottages.... Read more

Lake St. John, Orillia
Lake St. John Ice Conditions - Jan 5, 2013 60-80 people fished Lake St. John between 8.00 am – 3.00 pm. The ice didn’t get much thicker since the last report on Dec 31, 2012. Most parts of the lake have 4 inches of black ice and a layer of 1 inch white with 2-3 inches of snow on top, although there are areas where the ice is just 2 inches thick; fishermen still walk with spud bars. People were targeting perch, pike and walleye. Average pike: 3-4 pounds, some close to 10 pounds. Most pike were caught between 7 and 11 feet deep water, also quite a few decently weighted walleye were caught. ... Read more
