For Immediate Release: June 1, 2011
For the first time since its premier issue in the summer of 2008, Lake Simcoe Living Magazine has chosen a fishing scene for its front cover.
"The picture we chose for the Summer 2011 edition is especially intriguing," says Johanna Powell, editor of the magazine. "It’s a photo of young angler Alex Jaskielewicz
Since its inauguration three years ago, Lake Simcoe Living has had a strong commitment to promoting Lake Simcoe fishing opportunities. "Award-winning outdoor writer Wil Wegman, who has fished the lake extensively for more than 25 years, has been our regular Hooked On Fishing columnist from the start," Powell said. "With each issue, he brings us another exciting fishing topic specific to Lake Simcoe. As a former fishing instructor for more than 20 years at Seneca and Georgian colleges, Wil’s articles build upon his ability to educate readers so that they can better understand the lake’s fisheries - and ultimately catch more fish.”
The magazine’s website also recently launched Wegman’s new "Hooked On Fishing” videos on Lake Simcoe Living TV, highlighting the best of fishing on Lake Simcoe. "I was thrilled to see Kris’s fishing photo make the cover,” Wegman said. Jaskielewicz, a former tackle store owner and on-line tackle distributor, has run the popular Fish OnLine Canada website for 11years. Kris is now a full-time web designer and hosts several fishing related sites.
"The photo of his son getting ready to fish couldn’t have been more fitting as in this summer issue we look at several shore-fishing opportunities around the lake. We also highlight a few techniques to maximize the shore bound angler’s chances of catching fish,” Wegman said. "Unfortunately, so many public access sites around the lake ... for residents and visitors alike to cast a line, are being taken away. Public access sites are truly at a premium and even those that remain are often mired with no available parking."
As stated in the article, there are a few places left for shore fishing, and in the summer issue of Lake Simcoe Living, the waterfront out from the City of Barrie is declared the finest public shore fishing destination on the lake.
Of course, fishing isn’t the only topic covered in the magazine. Each issue features articles on topics such as local foods, watershed communities, local history, events, wildlife, nature, ecological issues, and interesting personalities from around the lake.
Lake Simcoe Living Magazine is published quarterly and free copies are available at shops and businesses around the watershed. Digital subscriptions are also free at www.lakesimcoeliving.com.
